Monolith · Architecture & Material Studies

We build in the
present tense.

A studio for board-formed concrete, daylight, and the long life of a building. We design the few rooms you will actually keep.

A building is not a picture. It is the weight you live underneath, and the light you live toward.

House on the Fault Line

A single board-formed concrete bar set parallel to the ridge, its mass tuned to ride seismic movement instead of resisting it. The roof is a thin shadow; everything load-bearing is something you can put your hand on.

The Reading Room

A public library carved as one continuous concrete vault, lit only from above so the books sit in even, shadowless daylight. No artificial light reaches the reading floor before dusk.

Granary No. 4

A 1930s grain store left mostly as found: we added a glass-and-steel insertion that never touches the original walls, so the new program reads as a guest, not an owner.

It begins as a single
line on warm paper.

We are slow on purpose. A drawing earns its way into concrete, and concrete is the last edit we ever get to make.

Monolith works on a handful of buildings at a time. Every project moves through full-scale material mock-ups before a single permanent wall is poured, because board-formed concrete remembers everything, the grain of the timber, the weather on the day, the hand that screeded it.

We do not chase a style. We chase the specific gravity of a place: how the sun crosses it, what it is made of nearby, and what the people inside will still want from it in forty years.
